About Margit

My name is Margit Elland Schmitt. For those who are wondering, Margit rhymes with target, rather than parakeet.

I’ve always loved to read, and write, and draw. Always. I was faking it even before I was old enough for my brain to fire the synapses properly to translate the written page to actual information in my brain. About a thousand years ago, I received my bachelor’s degree in English from Santa Clara University, located in California’s infamous Silicon Valley, and went on to write short stories and novels and have them rejected by publishers of all sorts for years and years. I kept studying, and kept practicing, and went on to take some classes, and feel very lucky to be writing at last on a professional level.

I began illustrating as a rank amateur, drawing crazy pictures when I was just a kid. It was in 2004 when I graduated from crayons to 3D rendering software, much to the relief of friends and family. My artwork and stories are frequently just the metaphoric anvil I use to weigh the balance of the teeter-totter of inspiration when one muse or the other seems to be slacking off on the donut consumption.

In addition to wrestling with fantasy worlds, the written word, and artistic renders, I am also a mother. I spend the majority of my time away from the computer wrangling two very active preschoolers and being ordered around by a bossy, black cat.
